How often should you clean your carpet?

Home and offices install carpes because they look good and presentable. A well-made carpet looks as good as it feels. More than just a decorative item…

Carpets act as filters in our home. They trap air-bourne dust particles and prevent them from floating in the air

Poorly maintained carpets cannot help filter the air properly; in fact, it can become a breeding ground for moulds and dustmites, on top of settling dust from the environment, which are all allergens to some people.

Therefore, if you want clean air, clean your carpets.

1. Regular vacuuming

This is the first and most basic thing we all do: Vacuuming. However, the common mistake that most people do is to vacuum TOO FAST. According to a carpet restoration owner, the best way to clean your carpets is to go over them back and forth repetitively, slowly. “It should take about 15-20 minutes to properly vacuum a 300-square-foot room. Doing so removes 83% of the dry soil in the carpet.” Regular vacuuming should be done once or twice a week.

2. Professional Cleaning

While vacuuming is able to suck most of the dust from our carpets, it is not enough- only professional help can truly lift the dust from deep beaneath your carpet. Most manufacturers recmmend steam cleaning. Sounds simple to DIY? Think again. If you don’t effectively remove all the steam’s moisture from your carpet, the excess humidity can become a breeding ground for all sorts of organisms.
